In response to the recommendations of the Yale Task Force on Artificial Intelligence, Yale IT implemented the Clarity platform, which provides Yale students, faculty and staff with secure access to robust AI tools. In its initial phase, Clarity features an AI chatbot that offers much of the same functionality as other popular general-purpose generative AI chatbots, including OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot with data protection, with fewer restrictions and greater protection of the university’s valuable data. Future offerings from the Clarity platform will include the ability to create custom chatbots and to integrate AI models into custom applications used for research, teaching, and other use cases.
Clarity Platform
Security
Clarity is appropriate for use with low, medium and most high-risk data, with the notable exception of Electronic Protected Health Information (ePHI). Users with external obligations like data use agreements should also make sure their use of Clarity is appropriate. For further details, see Clarity Platform Security.
