Yale Provided Tools

These tools are provided to all Yale community members and are an excellent entry point for exploring generative AI.

Clarity Platform The Clarity Platform provides access to an AI chatbot similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot with data protection, but housed within Yale’s secure infrastructure. The Clarity AI chatbot is a generative AI tool that can help you write emails and reports. It can help you write code, generate images, describe and analyze uploaded images, and summarize uploaded documents.

Copilot with Data Protection Copilot with data protection (also known as Microsoft Copilot Enterprise) is a secure AI chatbot using GPT-4 and DALL-E 3. It ensures privacy by not using your conversations for model training or sharing data with OpenAI, but is not approved for high risk data. You can use Copilot to help writing emails, reports, and other text, generate images based on natural language descriptions, or upload documents and images for extracting information and answering questions.

Available to: staff, faculty, and students (18 years of age or above)

Adobe Firefly Adobe Firefly is a suite of AI-powered tools in Adobe applications for creating and editing digital images. It converts textual descriptions into high-quality images and allows you to customize aspect ratio, content type, composition, styles, colors, and tone for detailed image transformations. It was built using Adobe Stock images and public domain content, ensuring legal compliance for commercial projects.

Microsoft 365 Copilot M365 Copilot is an AI assistant integrated into Microsoft 365 apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams, powered by GPT-4 from OpenAI. You can use it to generate draft content in Word, Outlook and Teams, use AI to analyze data in Excel, and create presentations in PowerPoint, as well as other uses.

AWS Q Business Amazon Q Business allows developers to easily build AI-powered assistants with access to enterprise data. AWS Q automatically selects the best language model for each request. AWS developers who want to have more control over their applications, including choice of AI models, will want to use AWS Bedrock instead.

AWS Bedrock Amazon Bedrock is a fully managed service providing access to various foundational AI models from providers like AI21 Labs, Anthropic, Cohere, Meta, Mistral AI, Stability AI, and Amazon. OpenAI ChatGPT ChatGPT is an AI chatbot developed by OpenAI, which is credited with starting the AI boom. The free version gives users access to the GPT-4o large language model (with limitations). ChatGPT tends to push the envelope on advanced features such as real-time voice mode on the mobile app. By default ChatGPT will capture user data to include in future training of AI models. Users should change their settings to opt out of model training.

Google Gemini Gemini is an AI chatbot developed by Google, in the same class as ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot. The free version of Gemini can create images based on a text prompt, unlike the free version of ChatGPT. It is well-integrated with Google Search and other Google products.

Anthropic Claude Claude is an AI chatbot developed by Anthropic. It is similar to ChatGPT, but is a little less versatile. For example it cannot generate images and does not have web search capabilities. The Claude large language models excel at summarizing and reasoning on large amounts of text and images. The Claude 3.5 Sonnet model is particularly good at coding tasks.
