Request Process for Custom Agent and API Access

The AI Platform Services team provides Custom Agents and API access to help Yale staff, students, and faculty integrate AI into their work. This guide outlines the necessary steps to request and receive access to each of the services.

Custom Agents

Create and manage customized AI Custom Agents through the Clarity self-service portal

Best for: Chatbots tailored to solve specific tasks, audiences, or perform analysis

Best for: Automated workflows, custom applications and programmatic access to AI models

A new request form is required for each use case. Repurposing an existing agent or API key for another use case than what was originally approved is not permitted. 

Before You Request Access

Before submitting a request, please:

  • Review Support Guidelines: Review the Support Guidelines and Terms of Use to understand your responsibilities and what support the AI Platform Services team provides
  • Define your Use Case: Be prepared to describe how you’ll use the service. Each request covers one use case only. Submit separate requests if you have multiple use cases.
  • Check Data Risk Classification: Review the data risk classification for your data, as further approval steps may be needed as explained below.

Request Process

The path for requesting access depends on your use case as outlined below. 

Custom Agent Access

For obtaining access to create your own Custom Agent through our self-service Portal.

  • Step 1 – Submit the Request Form: Complete the Yale AI Platform Request Form, detailing the intended use case, audience and the type of information it will use.
  • Step 2 – Request Form Review: The AI Platform Services team will evaluate your request within five business days of submission to confirm the suitability of your use case for the Clarity platform Custom Agents.

API Access

For obtaining access to an API key for use in an application, workflows or interacting programmatically with your Custom Agent.  

What Happens After Approval

Once your request form has been approved, you’ll receive:

  • Access to the relevant platform depending on your use case
  • Documentation to get you started
  • Ongoing Support
