The AI chatbots on the Clarity platform are like Microsoft Copilot Chat or OpenAI’s ChatGPT, but are housed within Yale’s secure infrastructure. The Clarity AI chatbots are generative AI tools that can help you generate content and in some cases, write code, describe and analyze uploaded images and summarize uploaded documents.
Features
- Multiple Agents: Clarity offers access to a wide range of different AI models. Please refer to the how-to guide for how to select and switch between agents.
- Chat Limit: There is no limit to how many chat sessions you can have. If you don’t want to keep a chat, you can delete it from the chat history. Any chats that have had no activity after 6 months will be automatically deleted.
- File Upload: There is no limit to how many files you can upload and you can upload up to 10 files simultaneously. However, there is an individual file size limit of 512MB per file. In addition, the size of the extracted text (not the size of the original file) cannot exceed 10,000,000 characters. For a list of supported file types, please refer to the Working with Files page.
- Chat History: Your chat history and responses are stored in the left-hand chat history panel of the AI chatbot interface.
- Custom Agent Creation: Users with approved use cases can create their own Custom Agent in Clarity, controlling the system prompts, knowledge sources, and user access.
- API keys: Users with approved use cases can request API keys to their Custom Agents for use in applications outside of Clarity.
- Print Conversations: Clarity offers the possibility to print your entire chat conversations to a PDF file. Please refer to the how-to guide for more information.
- Updates: Please refer to the Clarity platform page for updates to the Clarity AI chatbot.
Limitations
- Image Generation: Clarity’s currently doesn’t support image generation. The image generation functionality is available in Microsoft Copilot Chat and Google Gemini for Education, both of which are part of Yale’s AI Toolkit.
- Web Browsing: The AI chatbot has no internet browsing. It has a knowledge base it falls back on. Please refer to the Clarity platform page for details on the knowledge cutoff dates for the available models.
- Speech Capabilities: Currently, the AI chatbot does not support voice communication; it only accepts and outputs text.
Privacy and Protections
- Data Usage: Your chat data is not used to train the underlying AI models.
- Data Classification: Clarity is appropriate for use with low, medium and most high-risk data, with the notable restriction for Electronic Protected Health Information (ePHI). In addition, users with external obligations affecting their data, such as data use agreements, should also make sure their use of Clarity is appropriate. For more information about Clarity’s security controls and high-risk data, refer to Clarity Platform Security.
